How braces work
Braces use gentle, steady pressure. That pressure tells the bone around each tooth to remodel, so the tooth can move. Because braces are bonded to the teeth, they work around the clock with no daily decisions, which is why they’re so well suited to complex bites and bigger tooth movements.
Metal braces
The classic choice: strong, reliable and the most colorful, with fun color bands. Metal braces handle every type of bite, especially complex cases.
Clear braces
Clear (ceramic) brackets match the color of the teeth, so they blend in for a more subtle look. They have the same power and need the same care as metal braces, and they suit teens and adults.
What treatment looks like
- Consult. An exam, photos and a plan you understand. It’s free.
- 3D scan. No goopy impressions, and a preview of the finished smile.
- Start day. Braces go on in about an hour.
- Check-ins. Quick visits about every 6 to 8 weeks to adjust and track progress.
- Reveal day. Braces off. Photos encouraged.
- Retainers. They keep the result for life, and we show you how.
Caring for braces
Brush carefully around the brackets, and skip sticky or very hard foods.
Braces for adults
It’s never too late. Orthodontists treat children, teens and adults, and today about one in four orthodontic patients is an adult. If you would like something less noticeable, ask about clear braces or clear aligners.
Braces or clear aligners?
Both move teeth the same way. The bite itself matters most, which is why an exam comes first. Read our honest side-by-side, or see clear aligners.
Whatever you choose, retainers are what keep the result. Plan to wear them as directed for the long term.

Is the braces consultation free?
Yes. Braces and aligner consultations are free, and you don't need a referral.
How often are braces checkups?
About every 6 to 8 weeks, for quick visits to adjust and track progress.
